John has taught General Music at Calkins Road Middle School since it opened in 2006. His three decades of experience includes teaching just about every area of music including beginning orchestra, elementary general music, middle school chorus, and jr/sr band.  John holds a BME from Otterbein University and an MAH in Music Education and Computers in the Classroom from the University at Buffalo.

John is known to music educators across the country as “The SoloChair Guy.” His software redefined the way that solo & ensemble festivals are run. From 2002 to 2019, SoloChair simplified the lives of ten thousand teachers and handled the records for more than a hundred thousand students per year. In March of 2022, The Monroe County School Music Association presented Mr. Beel the Richard F. Snook Memorial Award in recognition of his work with SoloChair.

John enjoys fishing, Wii golf, Lasertron, and singing with his family.
